Lynk 2024 Round Up – Stats & Facts

We’ve released a 2024 round-up of passenger facts and stats from the last year. The research reveals some interesting results, from an increase in more sustainable vehicles and the most common taxi fare to the biggest celebrity passenger of 2024 as well as the top taxi-driver pet peeves and the most random conversations overheard in a taxi. Are there dolphins in Dolphin’s Barn? Did a Lynk taxi have a duck as a passenger in 2024? All is revealed in the Lynk annual roundup.

Since January 2024 Lynk has serviced over 3M passengers nationwide. The longest trip, a return journey from Drimnagh to Dungarvan clocked 366 kms, while the shortest venture from Shelbourne hotel to Grafton Street was a brief 350 metre drive. The most common fare of 2024 was €19 for journeys between approx. 16 to 20 minutes in length.

Lynk 2024 Info

The data also offers insight into the typical passenger and driver habits in Ireland and overall trends being seen across the taxi industry. Key stats are highlighted below:

Time & Demand

Longest Wait Time: A Lynk driver waited 246 mins for a passenger to come out of a hotel. The driver was told to ‘hold on’ by the passenger and ‘not to worry’ about the meter.

Most Popular Booking Times:  8am on a Thursday morning and 12.30am on a Saturday night/Sunday morning

Busiest Day of the Year: Paddy’s Day, 17th March.

Conversations

Overheard in a Taxi: An inquisitive tourist asked the question ‘Are there dolphins in Dolphin’s Barn?’

Taxi Driver Pet Hates:

  • Passengers eating takeaway in their vehicles
  • Changing radio stations or touching buttons without asking
  • Adjusting aircon without permission
  • Playing with electric windows in backseats

Taxi Driver’s Favourite station: Q102.

Passengers

Oddest Passenger: An injured duck was found and brought to a local animal rescue in Rathfarnham via a Lynk taxi.

Celebrity Passenger: Gladiator himself, Paul Mescal, was said to be spotted travelling in a Lynk taxi recently.

Baggsy the back seat: Just one in every four passengers sit in the front seat if travelling alone. Most prefer the back as it’s more spacious and comfortable.

Cash or Card?

  • Payment Type: 70% of passengers now pay by card, which is increasing year on year. 30% pay with cash
  • Weirdest Tip: a winning €4 scratch card

Vehicle Information

  • Fuel Type: An increase on last year, 61% of Lynk’s fleet are now hybrid or electric vehicles, as more and more drivers are taking advantage of the successful grant scheme available to switch from fuel to electric
  • Vehicle Type: Saloon 58%, Van 11%, Wheelchair 31%

On the roundup, CEO of Lynk Taxis, Noel Ebbs, said: “The annual roundup has gathered something of a cult following with our drivers and customers alike, everyone is keen to hear the latest stats. While the results have some comedic value, they’re are also a great way to gauge how the industry is evolving in terms of increased EV vehicles, more cashless payments and busiest travel periods.

In this business, convenience is king, and it will continue to be so in 2025, but above all else for us at Lynk, the customer experience is our biggest priority. It was interesting to see that in the age of apps and technology, a significant proportion (38%) of Lynk customers still prefer to book by phone and chat to someone in person. While our app is always evolving to offer as much convenience as possible, it’s our personable service that has created a loyal customer base.”
